From 23 February to 26 May 2013, the Museum of Modern Art in Saint-Etienne Métropole Exhibition welcomes Charlotte Perriand and Japan. Exposure Charlotte Perriand and Japan highlights the interaction between the French designer first woman and the country of the rising sun.
Exhibition Charlotte Perriand and Japan is dedicated to the first woman recognized designer and faithful associate of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. Produced by the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne Métropole Exhibition « Charlotte Perriand and Japan » is placed under the sign of design and highlights the interaction between the famous French designer and the country of the rising sun.
Real tribute to Charlotte Perriand, the exhibition shows how the architect is nourished by Japanese traditions and how his work has influenced Japanese design, with two exhibitions she has organized in Tokyo in 1941 and 1955. In partnership with the Archives Perriand, The Japan Association of Art Museums, the House of Culture of Japan, Paris, Cassina and the Comédie de Saint-Étienne, the course of the exhibition « Charlotte Perriand and Japan » focuses furniture (original edition), objects, archival documents, photographs, works of time and invite visitors, experts or novices, to immerse themselves in a creative innovation. In 1940, when asked by the Japanese Ministry of Commerce, Charlotte Perriand discovers that Japan, a country in which « we do not state an idea, it identifies the ».
Fascinated by this principle, she decided to explore the country to discover the techniques and crafts. During his many travels, she realizes itself collects photographs and those of Tom Haar to feed its reflection on specific issues: treatment of space, light and shadow … These photos were transposed on media dedicated to decorative arts and are presented for the first time in France in Saint-Etienne. In 1941, Charlotte Perriand up exposure -create-Selection tradition , reflecting the alliance of the West to the East. Many objects from this exhibition, some missing parts were recreated (unique pieces) for the occasion, at the request of Pernette Perriand, his daughter.
And exposure Proposal for a synthesis of the arts , organized by Charlotte Perriand in 1955 in Tokyo, has been fully restored to Saint-Étienne. With living rooms embedded in a device beams and joists, it shows a reception room, a dining room, a bedroom and a dressing room. We also find the library blocks incorporated, stackable table, the table tray cypress (republished for reconstitution), Tokyo benches, shelves Cloud, but also works by Fernand Léger and Le Corbusier, works of masters old.
