For him, the lacquer plant “urushi”, the lifeblood of the tree, is a living material, which he likens to the blood that circulates in the human body. More than just matter, lacquer work, allows him to feel the Life.

For KURIMOTO Natsuki, lacquer was first the story of a meeting. More than thirty years ago, when he was a young artist, he discovered this unique and elegant material, which still fascinates him today with as much force in his quest for spirituality.

The art of lacquer of KURIMOTO Natsuki is the expression and the testimony of life and of human existence.
This is a fundamental reflection of his artistic approach. Through his art, he seeks to express his experiences of traveling around the world, inspired by different cultures and different worlds.

There is a great diversity of techniques in the creations of KURIMOTO Natsuki. Whether colored lacquer (“iro-urushi”), the sprinkling of gold (“maki-e”) or pearl inlay (“raden”), the artist mastered and creates works of great refinement.

KURIMOTO Natsuki, through the presentation of his sculptural and vivid works , will make you appreciate the beauty of the art of lacquer, and will make you discover the infinite potential of this captivating material.

KURIMOTO Natsuki was born in 1961 in Osaka. Contemporary artist in lacquer, he has a worldwide reputation. He is also Professor at Kyoto City University of the Arts (KCUA).
